On this day in 2016, Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers batted like possessed and massacred the bowling line-up that stood against them. Batting first at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, both the legends notched up their centuries and posted a 200-runs partnership. Gujarat lions were reduced to rabbits and were later hunted by RCB bowlers.

After Chris Gayle’s early departure, RCB were just 19/1 after four overs. It was from here that the duo assembled and blasted the Gujarati bowling. RCB ended the innings with 248/3. AB De Villiers scored 129 runs from just 52 balls with 10 fours and 12 sixes. Virat Kohli has a magical season scored 109 runs from 55 balls with 5 fours and 8 sixes.

*This was only the second time that two batsmen scored centuries in the same T20 innings.

*The 229-run partnership between De Villiers and Kohli for the second wicket, was the highest partnership in the history of T20 cricket. They bettered their own record of 215* against MI in IPL 2015.

*Kohli and De Villiers became the only pair to have shared two double-century stands in T20 cricket.

*RCB scored 112 runs for the loss of two wickets in the last five overs of their innings, this is the most by a team in T20s.

*RCB hit 20 sixes which were joint second-most in an innings in T20s.

*RCB beat GL by 144 runs which is the largest victory margin of victory in the history of IPL.

In reply, Gujarat Lions were overpowered and were all out for only 104 runs, conceding 144 runs defeat. Chris Jordan took 4/11 while Yuzvendra Chahal took 3/19.
