There is no hiding to the fact that New Zealand’s Shand Bond, at his peak, was one of the most dreadful bowlers of all time. Had his career not hampered by frequent injuries, he would have easily went on to break more bowling records.

One of the fiercest overs that he bowled was against Sourav Ganguly during the second match of the Videocon Tri-Series in 2005 at Bulawayo. Having won the first match against Zimbabwe by 192 runs, Stephen Fleming, the then New Zealand’s captain, won the toss and chose to bat.

The Indian pacers went at full flow to restrict the Kiwis to 215-10 in 43.1 overs. Craig McMillan had top-scored with 54 (54), including five fours and two sixes. Irfan Pathan (8-0-34-3) was the highest wicket-taker for India.

In what looked as a comfortable target to chase, was made impossible by Bond. He made his intentions clear from the first over that he bowled to Ganguly, giving away absolutely no runs, but, a lot to ponder about for the Indian captain. India ended up scoring 164-10 in 37.2 overs as Bond registered his third ODI five-wicket haul and career-best figures of 9-3-19-6.
