After KL Rahul and Shubman Gill’s dismissals in the second Test against Sri Lanka, former India batter Aakash Chopra has said that the duo would feel they messed up. He added that they got out similarly and missed a chance to make a big score as well. While Rahul scored 18 runs off 33 balls, Gill made a 108-ball 50 on Day 1 (Sunday, August 23) in Colombo.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, ‘Aakash Chopra,’ he said, “KL Rahul was taking his time, and then he played two good drives. Then he got out playing a shot to a loose ball outside off. Shubman Gill also got out similarly, and both would be thinking that they messed up because they were loose balls, and their eyes lit up that they got a chance to hit a four with a cut.”

“They tried to hit hard, got outside edges, and were caught behind the wicket. There was a chance to make a huge total because nobody really knows when and how they would get to bat again. Shubman Gill had scored a fifty and KL Rahul had also played enough balls. So you feel you missed out on an opportunity,” he again shared.

However, Aakash Chopra stated that Yashasvi Jaiswal is failing to convert his starts into big scores in Tests.

“Yashasvi had gotten set, and this is happening with Yashasvi consistently. The big knock is not coming. A 175-run knock had come. I think that was against the West Indies in Delhi, but he hasn’t scored many runs around that. He has gotten starts many times, but he has not been able to make his starts big. This has been a constant problem with Yashasvi. I have said problem, but maybe it is not a problem yet. However, you want a big innings. Given the appetite the kid has, a big hundred is required to get the wagon on track again,” Aakash Chopra concluded.
