Former New Zealand opener, Brendon McCullum has often been seen defying his age with his supremely athletic and agile fielding in this edition of the BBL. He has already taken one stunner earlier and saved so many runs for his team. Even though he isn’t at his best with the willow, his fielding efforts have been top notch.

Brendon McCullum and Ben Cutting pulled off a brilliant effort

The 37-year-old was involved in another one of those mindboggling efforts in the 50th game of the league. In the match between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat, he nearly pulled off the best catch in the history of BBL. However, the execution didn’t exactly materialize as per how he would have wanted. Had that catch been taken, it sure would have been one of the greatest catches ever.

Adelaide Strikers were batting first in the game. They were just about going at a decent rate but lost five wickets by the 14th over of the game. Mitchell Swepson was handed over the ball for the 15th over while Henry Nielsen and Michael Neser were the two batsmen out in the middle.

On the fifth ball of the over, McCullum along with Ben Cutting almost pulled off the catch of the tournament. Neser lost his balance while trying to attempt a slog sweep towards the deep mid-wicket region. Yet, it was going over the ropes but Baz managed to put a big leap in and got hold over the ball. But, the momentum carried him into the boundary.

As he fell over the line, he flicked it brilliantly back into the field of play. It went up high enough that Cutting could cover the ground from long-on and take a diving catch. However, Brendon immediately signaled it to be a six and asked his teammates not to celebrate. His foot landed on the ropes as he fell over the boundary and it was a great display of sportsmanship. Yet, his teammates came to him and gave him a five to applaud that brilliant effort.
