Chennai Super Kings are currently placed at second on the points table, with two wins against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals and one loss in their series opener against Delhi Capitals so far. Despite having a good show from the team and a stunning captaincy from MS Dhoni, he has failed to do well with the bat.

However, seeing his on and off the show, former West Indies player Brian Lara believes that MS Dhoni can take some rest on the batting front.

“I don’t think there should be asking for too much effort from MS Dhoni with the bat. Of course, he got the gloves in his hands, he has got to take the catches and do the stumpings. But I find that batting order is so long, Dhoni can take some rest. We want him in form, we know how destructive he can be but he has got so many good players. Look at Sam Curran, who is in great form. He comes in and hits from ball one straightaway,” the former captain told Star Sports.

He also opined that if MS Dhoni gets separated from the pressures of batting, then he can focus on being the core of the team and guide them also as they will try to win the IPL title for the fourth time as well.

“I think they have got a very good team. A good leader who is inspirational. If he concentrates on that aspect of it, getting every single individual performing, they can go all the way,” Lara stated.

Meanwhile, after the last win against Rajasthan Royals (RR), MS Dhoni said: “I always look at what’s the best at that point of time. I felt Sam bowled really well and Deepak I think he tried the knuckleball too much and felt that a good start (with the ball) was important. It was spinning a bit, I don’t really mind Jos playing the reverse where it’s turning a bit. It’s important to have that sixth bowler, it always helps and it was stopping a bit for spinners. There was slightly less dew than the usual.”

CSK will next play against Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday, April 21.
