Tyrone Philander, The brother of the former South African fast bowler, Vernon Philander, has been shot dead in Cape Town. According to the latest reports of ESPNCricinfo, the incident happened on Wednesday afternoon in the family’s home town of Ravensmead in Cape Town.
Vernon Philander took to Twitter to confirm the news: “Our family is coming to terms with the brutal murder in my hometown of Ravensmead earlier today. I would like to ask that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time.”

Confirming the same, Philander said, “The murder is now the subject of a police investigation and we respectfully ask that the media give the police the space to conduct a thorough investigation. There are no details about the incident at the moment and speculation will make it very difficult for us as a family to mourn in peace. Tyrone is forever in our hearts. May his soul rest in peace.”

As per local media reports, Tyrone had gone out of his house to deliver water to a neighbor when he was shot dead.
Last year in December, Vernon Philander had announced his retirement from international cricket after the Test series against England. He has decided to call it quits on the career which lasted for around 12 years in which he has scalped 265 wickets and scored 1930 runs in 94 matches.

Announcing his retirement date, Philander said, “I feel that it is the appropriate time to conclude what has been an amazing journey. I want to give thanks to my Heavenly Father for blessing me with the opportunity to represent my country for the last 12 years.”
