Nick Hockley, the chief executive of Cricket Australia, on Monday said that the governing body is yet to have a discussion about their players if they are joining their respective IPL franchises again when the tournament will resume in the UAE in September-October as well. Hockley, however, said that the Australian players and support staff were relieved after returning home and now they want to spend time with families.

Meanwhile, Nick Hockley has joined as CA chief executive on Monday after being in an interim role. Australian players have recently finished their 2-week-long quarantine at hotels in the country and finally were allowed to meet the families. However, they were staying in the Maldives after the cash-rich Indian Premier League got suspended midway earlier last month.

Meanwhile, nearly 40 Australians, including players, coaches, officials and commentators were part of the IPL 2021 before the league was cancelled on May 4 after Covid-19 breached its bio-bubble and started affecting players and support staff.

“Once we get back together as a group that (IPL) is something we’ll obviously need to discuss,” Nick Hockley was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo. “Our players returning from the IPL have only today come out of quarantine, so our first priority is to make sure they are reunited with their families. We have a tour to prepare for in the West Indies.”

“They are clearly quite shaken by the experience, and are very appreciative to be back home, very much looking forward to being reunited with family and friends today,” he further added.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is yet to take a call on the T20 World Cup which is scheduled to take place in India later this year. While UAE has been on the list of a backup venue, the chances are high that Australian players will feature in the league since then they won’t have to move to another bio-bubble in India as well. Meanwhile, they will travel to the West Indies in July and then to Bangladesh for a bilateral series as well.
