On Monday, The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) revealed that they are waiting for clearance from the BCCI to allow training at the Eden Gardens. The news came in after the central government allowed the resumption of sporting activities across the country. The new guidelines are implemented as India entered the fourth phase of its nationwide lockdown. The CAB office in Eden Garden has been shut since March 25.

Earlier, on Sunday, The Ministry of Home Affairs revealed that stadiums will be allowed to host games without any fans.  This may come as a huge relief to BCCI who can now plan for the cash-rich Indian Premier League. Scheduled to begin on March 29, the IPL was suspended indefinitely due to the pandemic spread of COVID-19.

The CAB said, “With regard to the training of players, it has been stated by the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) that it would study guidelines at the state level and will work in sync with state cricket associations to chalk out a program for skill-based training at a local level. Therefore, CAB would wait for such guidelines before taking a further decision in the matter.”

“As the Association would like to ensure the safety of our players as well as our staff.  There would be a medical committee meeting via video conference on Thursday to discuss and frame the protocols. It includes parameters, guidelines to be adopted to maintain safety and hygiene in the office. Thereafter, once the systems are in place as per suggestions provided by the top doctors in the panel, the decision for the reopening of the association office would be considered.”

The CAB also cleared dues off its scorers, umpires, and observers and others involved with them. They are also expected to release due payments to the clubs. This will help the smaller clubs make payments to their groundsmen and other people amid the corona crisis.
