Team India vice-captain Shubman Gill’s rough patch in Australia continued, as he once again failed to convert his start during the third T20I of the five-match series against Australia at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Sunday, November 2. While India’s chase began under pressure, the cameras briefly shifted focus off the field when Sara Tendulkar, daughter of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, was spotted in the stands — instantly setting social media abuzz.

Australia, after being asked to bat first, posted a challenging total of 186/6, powered by explosive knocks from Tim David (74) and Marcus Stoinis (64). For India, Arshdeep Singh starred with three wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy chipped in with two crucial breakthroughs to slow the scoring rate in the middle overs.

Gill, however, could not make an impact once again. Facing Nathan Ellis, he was trapped LBW for 15 off 12 balls by a perfectly executed yorker that tailed in late. Gill, who tends to plant his front foot across the line, was beaten by the movement, and ball-tracking confirmed the delivery was crashing into leg stump.

The on-field decision stood after review, with all three reds lighting up the screen. Ellis’s double strike inside the powerplay left India in early trouble. Meanwhile, the brief shot of Sara Tendulkar during the telecast quickly went viral, with fans drawing light-hearted connections between her presence and Gill’s innings.

Adding to the ongoing scrutiny, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan recently criticized Gill’s inconsistency, noting that he replaced Sanju Samson, a batter with three T20I hundreds, but hasn’t justified the faith shown in him. “Gill has talent and support, but he needs to start delivering. Ten innings without 200 runs is not what’s expected from an opener of his calibre,” Pathan remarked.
