Cameron Green, the Australian all-rounder creating a buzz in world cricket, has found himself in a new environment for IPL 2024. After a successful stint with Mumbai Indians in his first two seasons, Green was unexpectedly traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a late-window deal that shocked many fans. Speaking to the media on Saturday, March 30th, Green revealed the whirlwind experience of the trade deadline. He was bombarded with calls while preparing for a domestic match back in Australia.

“It was very exciting,” Cameron Green said. “Found out at the very last minute when the deadline of retention was happening. There were a lot of things happening at that time, I wasn’t too sure. I had a first-class game the next day. I just wanted to go to sleep. I got a lot of calls back and forth, asking me what was happening. So in the end, I was very lucky with how it turned out. Pretty hectic few hours there.”

Despite the initial chaos, Green expressed his delight at joining a prestigious franchise like RCB. Having played alongside both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the past, he sees similarities between the two Indian batting giants.

“Obviously they are both greats of the game,” Cameron Green stated. “Every time I think about it, I pinch myself saying I have been lucky enough to play with two of the greats of world cricket, if not Indian cricket. I am very lucky.”

Cameron Green highlighted their shared hunger for victory and their willingness to mentor younger players.

“What makes them great? They are so similar. They both are equally very happy to help the team win much of the cricket, I think they are both equally happy to give you a lot of time, and give information about the other team from their own experiences. So, not much difference. They are both greats of the game. I am happy to have spent time in the change room with them,” he added.

Green specifically praised Virat Kohli’s ability to assess conditions and pace his innings, something he’s eager to learn from firsthand. While RCB has had a slow start to the season, Green played a crucial role in their recent match against Kolkata Knight Riders. He stitched a crucial 65-run stand with Kohli, who top-scored with 83 runs.

“We are playing good cricket shots at times,” Cameron Green said of his partnership with Kohli. “He is obviously a lot better cricketer than I am. So I am trying to learn as much from him, how he goes about things, especially in the powerplay. He picks his bowlers really well. He doesn’t target everybody. He has a really good game plan. He is a master of his craft.”

Beyond cricket, Green is also very open about managing his chronic kidney condition. Diagnosed with stage two kidney disease before birth, Green prioritizes a special diet to maintain his health while playing at the highest level. Green’s visit to the Bengaluru Kidney Foundation on Sunday showcased his commitment to raising awareness about the condition. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to interact with doctors and patients battling kidney issues.

“I think today (Sunday) I was lucky enough to go to the Bengaluru Kidney Foundation,” Cameron Green said. “I had such a great time there. I was really impressed by how they run the place… It was a great opportunity.”

Cameron Green also highlighted the support he’s received from RCB in managing his diet.

“For me, personally, it’s sometimes challenging, especially in India,” Cameron Green explained. “With my condition, I have got to look after my salt and protein… The RCB people have been unreal with helping me. I have got in contact with the chefs here, they have prepared a special diet. It’s been pretty awesome… I am loving the franchise, they are looking after me beautifully,” he concluded.

Cameron Green’s story goes beyond just impressive on-field performances. His resilience in managing his health and his willingness to learn from cricketing legends make him a compelling figure in the IPL. As he settles into his new role at RCB, fans will be eager to see him continue to develop his skills and contribute to the team’s success.
