Sri Lankan all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne was seen celebrating their win in the do-or-die Asia Cup 2022 game over Bangladesh with a “Nagin Dance” on Thursday, September 1. The 5th match of the Asia Cup 2022 was played between Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka and Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Ahead of the match, the teams were engaged in a verbal battle as the Sri Lanka skipper had said that Bangladesh has got only two world-class bowlers Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman.
Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud was visibly upset with the statement and when asked about Shanaka’s comments during a press conference, Mahmud said that Sri Lanka has no world-class bowlers in their line-up.

Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to field first in the knockout match. Batting first, Bangladesh was able to post 183/7 on the board with the help of good performances by Mehidy Hasan Miraz (38), Mahmudullah (27), Afif Hossain (39), and Mosaddek Hossain (24).
Chasing a comparatively steep target, openers Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka provided Sri Lanka with a good start. Opener Kusal Mendis played an absolutely fantastic knock of 60 runs before being dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman in the 15th over. In the end, skipper Dasun Shanaka played a good 45-run knock and Chamika Karunaratne contributed 16 runs to take his team over the line.

Sri Lanka needed 8 runs off the final over to knock out Bangladesh and Asitha Fernando’s crucial 10 runs helped Sri Lanka win the nail-biting match by a couple of wickets to become the third team after Afghanistan and India to qualify for the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2022. Also, this was the highest successful chase in the Asia Cup T20 history.

Notably, Sri Lanka’s Chamika Karunaratne took perfect revenge after 4 long years after the win over Bangladesh with a Nagin Dance celebration. In 2018, Bangladesh players did a Nagin Dance celebration after knocking out Sri Lanka from the Nidahas Trophy.
