India’s triumph in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 was reflected in the Team of the Tournament, with five Indian players making the cut after their thrilling final victory over New Zealand. The Black Caps, who finished runners-up, saw four of their stars earn a place, including Player of the Tournament Rachin Ravindra, while Afghanistan’s historic campaign was recognized with two selections.

Ravindra’s inclusion at the top of the order was a foregone conclusion. The dynamic left-hander amassed 263 runs, the highest in the tournament, striking two centuries—one in the group stage against Bangladesh and another in the semi-final against South Africa. His fearless stroke play and consistency cemented his status as one of world cricket’s most promising young batters.

Partnering him at the top was Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran, who played a record-breaking knock of 177 against England, the highest-ever individual score in Champions Trophy history. India’s batting powerhouse Virat Kohli secured the No. 3 spot after another stellar ICC event. He finished with 218 runs at an average of 54.50, including a classic unbeaten century in the group stage against Pakistan and a vital 84 in the semi-final against Australia.

Virat Kohli was flanked in the middle order by two of India’s most dependable performers—Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. Iyer was India’s top scorer with 243 runs, highlighted by two half-centuries, while Rahul’s composure in crunch moments stood out. He averaged a staggering 140, playing key unbeaten knocks in the knockout stages, including 42 in the semi-final and 34 in the final.

New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips earned his place at No. 6, showcasing his all-round brilliance. His breathtaking fielding efforts, including a stunning one-handed catch to dismiss Shubman Gill in the final, were complemented by a crucial half-century against Pakistan and two vital wickets in the semi-final against South Africa. Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai followed, making a strong impact as a fast-bowling all-rounder, finishing with seven wickets at an average of 20 and contributing 126 runs at 42.00.

 

Mitchell Santner, New Zealand’s bowling lynchpin, was named team captain. His nine wickets, the joint second-most in the tournament, came at crucial junctures, including the dismissals of Gill and Iyer in the final. India’s Mohammed Shami, making a remarkable return from injury, secured his spot with nine wickets, while Matt Henry, despite missing the final due to injury, was the tournament’s highest wicket-taker with 10 scalps at an average of 16.70.

Varun Chakravarthy’s selection completed India’s dominance. The mystery spinner was a game-changer, taking nine wickets in just three matches while maintaining an economy under five runs per over. Axar Patel was named the 12th man, rounding off a team that celebrated standout performances across nations.
