Former Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir, known for his game-changing spell in the 2017 Champions Trophy final, has made a bold prediction ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. According to Amir, Pakistan will have the upper hand against India in their highly anticipated clash, scheduled for February 23 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
India boasts an unbeaten record against Pakistan in ODI World Cups but has managed just two wins in five Champions Trophy encounters. Reflecting on the historic final of the 2017 Champions Trophy, Amir, who dismantled India’s top order by dismissing Rohit Sharma (0), Virat Kohli (5), and Shikhar Dhawan (21), believes Pakistan’s recent performances give them a significant edge.
“The way Pakistan has played recently—defeating Australia in Australia and then beating South Africa—highlights their strength, especially in overseas conditions. Pakistan’s momentum makes them favourites against India this time,” Mohammad Amir shared with Times of India.

Despite his confidence in Pakistan’s chances, Amir acknowledged India’s reputation in major tournaments. However, he pointed out the mounting pressure on the Indian side following recent defeats and the intense scrutiny they face.
Adding to India’s challenges, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for the tournament remains uncertain due to a back injury. Amir emphasized the potential impact of Bumrah’s absence, stating, “It would be a massive loss for India. Bumrah is their spearhead, and without him, their bowling attack is significantly weakened, operating at only 40-50% of its strength.”
Bumrah’s form has been exceptional, as evidenced by his recent performance in the Test series against Australia. The pacer claimed 32 wickets in five matches, setting a record for the most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in an away Test series. His absence could prove to be a significant setback for India, especially in a high-stakes match against a confident Pakistan side.
