Chandigarh captain Kashvee Gautam registered a 10-wicket haul recently who doesn’t really like to bowl to fellow women cricketers in her academy at the Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 26, in Chandigarh. However, she made history with his 10 wickets against Arunachal Pradesh in the ongoing Women’s U-19 One-Day Trophy in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, on Tuesday. In her previous match against Jammu and Kashmir, she took up seven wickets.

“I tried to bowl wicket-to-wicket. I have learnt this after watching the videos of my inspiration Jhulan Goswami. Her height helps her extract a lot of bounce, but I am not as tall as her. So I rely on my accuracy, which is my biggest strength,” Kashvee Gautam told TOI after achieving the feat.

“I am a natural in-swing bowler and that’s why most of my wickets are either leg before the wicket or bowled. My aim is to complete the season with 100 wickets,” the youngster further added. “If you get the wicket of a boy, it will shut them down forever. They will never try to bully you or pass comments like this game is not for girls. I really enjoy bamboozling them in the practice matches.”

On Tuesday, she was that accurate in her bowling that all the wickets were either LBW or bowled which also included a hat-trick. Defending a total of 186, Chandigarh bowled Arunachal Pradesh out for a mere 25 runs to register a thumping 161-run win. Kashvee Gautam has been in formidable form for Chandigarh. She has picked up 63 wickets so far this season. With 31 wickets in nine matches which included four five-wicket hauls, she is the leading wicket-taker in the women’s U-23 One-day trophy as well.

She continued her impressive run in the Women’s U-23 T20 trophy by taking 14 wickets in seven matches. In the Women’s U-19 One-Day trophy, she has already 18 wickets in her name from just three matches now.

Nagesh Kumar, under whom Kashvee Gautam has been training for the past four years, shared: “I got a call from Sanjay and he told me about Kashvee. I somehow managed to get the contact detail of Sudesh Kumar (Kashvee’s father) and asked him to let her train under me.”

“She is a natural talent. She was picked for Punjab at the age of 13. She still doesn’t want to practice with girls. She has got a very good inswinger and this is the reason why 49 out of her 63 wickets are either leg before the wicket or clean bowled,” said Nagesh.
