Chandimal got injured in 3rd ODI

It looked like another story repeat as India clinched another win against Sri Lanka to take a lead in the five match  ODI series. But the woes of Lankan cricket seems to never end. Along with not ‘up to the mark’ performances came yet another blow yesterday.  Dinesh Chandimal has been ruled out of the series against India after suffering a hairline fracture on his thumb.

Hardik Pandya bowled a fiery short ball and it hit Chandimal’s fingers when he was at 14. Immediately he was attended by the physio and was medicated. But he continued to play, struggling with his willow and finally giving up at 36 runs.

“SLC confirms that Test captain Dinesh Chandimal will be out of action for the rest of the series after sustaining a hairline fracture to his right thumb. We will have a better idea of the timeline of his recovery after consulting a specialist in Colombo tomorrow,” a media release from SLC said.

Already their skipper Upul Tharanga has been banned for two games due to slow over rate. On the other hand,  Danushka Gunathilaka has been also out for two games due to a shoulder injury. Chandimal wasn’t initially a part of the Lankan squad but was recalled to the team’s services after Tharanga and Gunathilaka have been ruled out.

India once again puts up a great show with Rohit’s12th ODI century and MS Dhoni’s yet another ODI fifty. Bumrah’s five-wicket haul came as an icing on the cake.
