Team India batter Cheteshwar Pujara has announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket. He announced this news on X (formerly Twitter).

“Wearing the Indian jersey, singing the anthem, and trying my best each time I stepped on the field – it’s impossible to put into words what it truly meant. But as they say, all good things must come to an end, and with immense gratitude I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket,” he said in a post on X.

Cheteshwar Pujara, 37, played 103 Tests and 5 ODIs for Team India after making his debut way back in 2010. He smashed 7,195 Test runs, which came at an average of 43.60, with 19 tons and 35 fifties as well. At home, he scored 3839 runs, averaging 52.58. However, he was India’s most dependable No. 3, playing a key role in most of the team’s most significant Test wins at home and overseas as well.

However, his last Test appearance came in the World Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval in June 2023 as well. Even after getting dropped from the India team, Pujara continued to play red-ball cricket for Saurashtra and also playedfor Sussex in the County Championship.

“Today marks the end of an extraordinary chapter in Indian and Saurashtra cricket as Cheteshwar, one of the game’s most committed and technically gifted batsmen, announces his retirement from all forms of cricket,” President of Saurashtra Cricket Association Jaydev Shah said.

However, Cheteshwar Pujara scored the first of his 19 Test centuries against New Zealand in Hyderabad in August 2012 as well. Against England at home soon after, he smashed his first double hundred and followed that up with a stunning century in the Wankhede Test as well. Moreover, Pujara scored 21301 runs from 278 first-class games, which came at an average of 51.82 and 66 tons and three triple tons as well.
