Cheteshwar Pujara Scores His Maiden T20 Century

The veteran Indian batsman, Cheteshwar Pujara, who has often been considered as a mismatch for T20 cricket has come out all guns blazing as he has amassed his maiden T20 century for during a Group C encounter of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament against Railways in Indore. He has justified that he has the ability to adapt to different forms of cricket rather easily with this glorifying knock.

Pujara reached his century in the last over of the first innings and it was his first in the shortest format of the game as he has scored six half-centuries in the past. He has often been overlooked for the cash-rich Indian Premier League as he is considered as the best-suited batsman for the longest format and in this game he came out to open the innings for the Ranji Trophy finalists and smashed 14 fours and a six to help Saurashtra reached 188/3 in their quota 20 overs after they were put to bat.

The opening combination of Pujara and Harvik Desai amassed 85 runs for the first wicket in 8.5 overs with the latter contributing 34 runs to the tally as he was dismissed by Ashish Yadav. On the other hand, Pujara completed his fifty in just 29 balls as got some apt support from Robin Uthappa (46), who has moved from Karnataka in 2017, as they added 82 runs for the second wicket and took the team beyond the 150 run mark.

For Railways, the decision to bowl first backfired as a sublime Pujara along with other Saurashtra batsmen smashed the bowlers all over the park. Ashish was the most successful bowler for Railways, taking 1/30 in his quota of four overs. Along with him, Anureet Singh and Amit Mishra took a wicket apiece.

During the run chase, at the 11-over mark, Railways were cruising as 112/3 with Pratham Singh (40) and Abhinav Dixit (3) started having a good partnership.
