Sri Lankan all-rounder Asela Gunaratne will not fly to India for the remaining two Test matches in Nagpur and Delhi respectively, revealed by the Chief selector of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). Gunaratne fractured his finger during first Test vs India in Galle earlier this year.

The selectors were planning to give him some domestic games before inserting him into him into the current Test squad of Sri Lanka before Nagpur Test. The Chief selector, Graeme Labrooy cleared this news on Saturday.

“He has played two games now since the injury. He bowled, batted and fielded and has come good. We discussed about him, but feel this is not the moment to bring him back, but he will be certainly back for the ODIs,” he said to Cricbuzz.

“There’s no point of sending him to India and making him to sit on the bench. We are better off getting him to play some competitive games. We will also see what’s the requirement of team management, leave it to them and then make a call,” Labrooy added.

Gunaratne played for Sri Lanka Army in an inter-regiment game last week before playing competitive cricket for Army SC this week.
