Chris Gayle All Set to Play in Nepal’s Everest Premier League

Flamboyant West Indian batsman Chris Gayle is all set to play for Pokhahra Rhinos team in Nepal’s domestic T20 tournament, named ‘Everest Premier League’, which will begin from February 29 in Kathmandu. The 40-year-old Gayle now plays for T20 leagues all around the world, announced his decision on Twitter.

“I will be visiting Nepal for the biggest sporting event, the Everest Premier League. Come and support my team Pokhara Rhinos and be part of a magnificent cricket fiesta. Nepal, get ready for the Gayle storm,” he said.

The organisers of the league also shared the development in a post on Twitter.

“Nepal, the forecast for March is Stormy! @henrygayle has confirmed to play in the @eplt20official for @pokhararhinos! Are you ready for the Gayle Storm?” the post read.

However, Chris Gayle is yet to announce his retirement from international cricket whose last appearance for West Indies came in the third ODI in Port-of-Spain against India in August last year. He last played in T20I was in March 2019 against England.

“The league had to mature and earn a certain reputation in the international market so someone like Chris Gayle would be ready to play. All the hard work from the last three years has actually convinced him that this is a clean, reputable league, followed by passionate cricket lovers. This signifies that Nepal is gearing up for the next level,” managing director of EPL, Aamir Akhtar said.

The fourth edition of the league will start from March 14 and end on March 28th. A total of 19 matches will take place during that period. Other notable players added there is Mohammad Shahzad, Dwayne Smith, and Kevin O’ Brien.
