After Chris Gayle’s huge controversial interview with the Channel 10 female journalist Mel McLaughlin in past 2016, former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell had called for the worldwide ban on Gayle. Recently, the star batsman has taken a dig on the former Aussie cricketer by quoting, “Who’s Ian Chappell?”

During a Big Bash League match between Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes in January 2016, Renegades cricketer Chris Gayle had an on-air interview with the Channel 10 female journalist Mel McLaughlin.

In the sideline, Gayle had begun that interview by quoting, “I wanted to come and have an interview with you as well, that’s the reason why I’m here. Just to see your eyes for the first time. It’s nice.”

Soon McLaughlin felt uncomfortable while Gayle extended, “So hopefully we can win this game and we can have a drink after. Don’t blush, baby.”

Chris had been hugely criticised for those comments and later, he had been slapped for USD 10,000 fine by his team Melbourne Renegades.

Later, in that hot period, former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell had felt very angry on those comments and had called for the worldwide ban on the Caribbean cricketer.

Chappell had quoted, “I wouldn’t have a problem if Cricket Australia said to the clubs, ‘he’s never to be contracted again in this country’. And I also wouldn’t have a problem if Cricket Australia said to the ICC, ‘what we’re doing should be worldwide’.

“You’d have to talk to the individual countries then… but I wouldn’t have a problem if it was tabled at an ICC meeting that Cricket Australia said, ‘this is what we’re doing and we would recommend that everybody else do the same’.”

While Gayle had apologized for that and had claimed that it was a “simply joke”, Chappell had claimed that it was not the first such incident for the Caribbean.

The former Aussie captain had added on that, “If it was a one-off thing, yeah, slap him with a $10,000 fine and say ‘mate, don’t do it again’. But every woman I spoke to [about Gayle] who’s working at the cricket, you got the same answer from. They were quite adamant about it.”

During a recent interview with Mumbai Mirror, when Gayle was asked about Chappell’s ‘banned’ proposal for him, Gayle just had a short comment, “Who’s Ian Chappell?”
