A month ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Auction, the veteran South African all-rounder, Chris Morris has decided to announce his retirement from all forms of the game. He became IPL’s most expensive player when Rajasthan Royals (RR) managed to bough his service ahead of the IPL 2021 Auction for INR 16.5 crore. He will be taking up a coaching role with the South African T20 team Titans for the upcoming season.
Announcing the same through on his Instagram, Chris Morris said, “Today I announce my retirement from all forms of cricket! Thanks to all who have played a part in my journey whether it be big or small…it’s been a fun ride! Delighted to be taking up a coaching role at Titan”.

The fact that Chris Morris has always been among the most sought-after IPL players at repeated auction events, but remained unwanted by the Proteas at T20 level, constantly baffled supporters. It’s believed the arrival of his second child contributed to Morris’ decision to step away from the game and to be able to focus more on his family.

Chris Morris has played 81 IPL matches, in which he has amassed 618 runs at an average of 22.07 and bagged 95 wickets. In the last season, he managed to take 15 wickets and scored 67 runs in 11 matches for Rajasthan Royals. For South Africa, he played 4 Test matches, 42 ODIs, and 23 T20Is since making his debut in 2012.
Morris made his international debut in December 2012 against New Zealand and played his first ODI in 2013. The all-rounder’s first match in Test cricket came in when England toured South Africa in 2016.

South Africa all-rounder played his last game for the country in an ODI against Australia in 2019. Since then he has been plying his trade in franchise leagues around the world. Morris in his announcement also mentioned that he has taken up a coaching role with the domestic side Titans.
