In their last game, Rajasthan Royal (RR) failed to chase down a target of 222 runs, but they found themselves in a soup as did Delhi Capitals (DC) after they lost the toss. Eventually, RR managed to win the game owing to a brilliant knock by David Miller and Chris Morris. After being asked to bat first, the Capitals looked all but lost at 36/3 by the end of the powerplay as Jaydev Undakat was too hot to handle for the DC batsmen. He foxed Prithvi Shaw, followed by Shikhar Dhawan owing to a brilliant superman dive by Sanju Samson.

Unadkat struck for the third time inside the powerplay as Ajinkya Rahane gave him a simple return catch. Rishabh Pant was watching his team fall like a pack of cards, but he played some eye-catching strokes on the off-side after settling in. Even as he attempted to halt the fall, he found little support from others. While gaining some momentum, Pant took on Rahul Tewatia, smashing four boundaries to amass 20 from the 11th over as he added 51 runs for the 5th wicket with Lalit Yadav and completed his fifty in 30 balls.

Pant’s knock eventually came to an end after Riyan Parag’s direct hit which caught him short of his ground. A brief stand of 28 between Chris Woakes and Tom Curran pushed the Capitals’ momentum slightly up after Yadav holed out to mid-on off Chris Morris. Curran was looking to go big, however, Mustafizur Rahman cleaned him up as Delhi finished 147/8. During the chase, Rajasthan had a slipup of their own, thanks to Chris Woakes’ Test match lines.

Compared to the Capitals’ reeling tally of 36/3, the Royals found themselves wanting at 26/3 as Woakes removed their openers in the third over. Having struck a couple of fours, Manan Vohra eventually got dismissed, and soon after that Jos Buttler was sent back courtesy of the game’s second Superman dive – this time by Pant. Kagiso Rbaada struck in his first ball by dismissed Samson, who edged the ball to Dhawan in the slip.

Avesh Khan got Dhawan more business: he induced an edge of Shivam Dube in the 8th over that Dhawan grabbed in the slips, and then got Riyan Parag caught at extra cover in the 10th. Doing what Pant did for DC, David Miller was playing some positive cricket, hitting Avesh for consecutive fours immediately after he got in. He pummeled a hat-trick of fours off Stoinis.

Chris Morris sealed the game for RRR

Miller’s effort rubbed on Rahul Tewatia as well, who whacked a couple of boundaries against Curran although the 48-run partnership was broken when Tewatia miscued a pull against Rabada. Miller was also dismissed after an attempt of smashing three consecutive sixes off Avesh. However, Chris Morris had made his intentions clear when he sent Rabada out of the ground twice in the penultimate over and RR needed 12 runs in the final over to defend. Morris finished the game with a couple of more sixes.
