As India gears up for a high-stakes Test series in England this June, former England fast bowler Chris Tremlett has thrown his support behind two of India’s biggest stars—Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Tremlett, who knows a thing or two about English conditions, believes that the senior duo could rediscover their vintage form during the five-match series starting June 20.

Speaking to RevSportz, Chris Tremlett said, “I’ve always admired Rohit and Virat. Yes, they’ve had a few quiet outings in red-ball cricket recently, but their class is undeniable. I wouldn’t be surprised if they average 50 or 60 in England. These are big-match players.”

India’s most experienced campaigners haven’t had the best of times in the longer format of late. Kohli managed just one century during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year in Perth, while Rohit struggled throughout the series and even opted out of the final Test, which India went on to lose.

However, Tremlett feels the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year served as a timely confidence boost for both. Kohli emerged as India’s second-highest run-scorer with 218 runs at 54.50, while Rohit chipped in with a solid 180 runs at the top.

“The format may have been different, but runs are runs. That kind of performance helps top players mentally. Rohit and Virat are the kind who can come back hard, especially in challenging conditions,” Chris Tremlett said.

While Kohli continues to shine in the IPL with 248 runs and three fifties for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rohit has had a more subdued season so far, featuring as an Impact Player for Mumbai Indians and scoring 82 runs in six matches. But Tremlett is confident the Test arena could reignite the fire in both.

“Never count out players of that calibre,”  ChrisTremlett summed up. “They’ve gone through lows before and always come back stronger.”

India will need just that when they step onto English soil—resilience, experience, and two legends leading from the front.
