During the event, CM Vijay presented the shawl to Sundar and handed him the cheque and memento. Both posed for photographs on stage, while other dignitaries present at the function applauded the Indian all-rounder for his achievement. Sundar later took to X to express his gratitude for the recognition, describing the felicitation as a proud and memorable moment. The cricketer also shared pictures from the ceremony with his followers.

“An honour that makes it even more special. Grateful to receive this recognition from the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C. Joseph Vijay. A proud moment, and a reminder to keep striving for excellence! @CMOTamilnadu,” Washington Sundar wrote.

Born in Chennai, Sundar has represented Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket across formats. He played an important role in India’s victory over Pakistan in the final of the 2026 Asian Games men’s cricket tournament. Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 211/6. The Indian bowlers then restricted Pakistan to 192/6, securing a 19-run victory and the gold medal.

Washington Sundar made a significant contribution with the ball, dismissing Sahibzada Farhan and Abdul Samad. He finished with figures of 2/29 in four overs, maintaining an economy rate of 7.25 during the high-pressure final. Sundar was initially included in India’s squad for the ongoing home T20I series against the West Indies. However, he was subsequently replaced by Naman Dhir as the team management prioritised his preparation for the upcoming Test series during India’s tour of New Zealand.

As part of those preparations, Sundar has been asked to represent Tamil Nadu in their opening fixture of the 2026–27 Ranji Trophy season. Tamil Nadu are scheduled to face Rajasthan in Jaipur, with the match beginning on Sunday, October 11.
