Mohammad Nawaz was involved in a bizarre run-out in the second game of the ICC World Cup 2023 against the Netherlands. The all-rounder was batting well until he got run out disappointingly at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Nawaz was batting alongside Shaheen Afridi when the comedy of errors began. Afridi tried to play a reverse sweep but missed the ball completely.

The Netherlands went for an appeal, and at the other end, Nawaz was already halfway down the track as the ball went to short fine-leg. Nawaz was lucky enough to make it back as the throw came to the bowler, but the bowler failed to collect it. The ball deflected towards silly mid-on, and that’s when Afridi called him for a single.

However, Mohammad Nawaz was late, and the direct hit at the striker’s end saw him back in the pavilion. Mohammad Nawaz had batted brilliantly until then, scoring crucial runs for the team down the order and helping them post a total of 286. He scored 39 runs off 43 balls.

“It was a very unfortunate run out,” said Mohammad Nawaz after the match. “I was just trying to get back to the crease, but Shaheen called me for a single and I was late. It’s a shame, but I’m glad the team was able to win the match.”

Nawaz’s run out was a major blow to Pakistan, but they were able to recover and win the match thanks to some excellent batting from Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel. However, the all-rounder will be looking to avoid such mishaps in the future, as Pakistan will need him to be at his best if they are to challenge for the World Cup title.
