Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer shared that credit for Ishan Kishan’s resurgence should also go to ex-India captain Suryakumar Yadav. He said this after the second T20I of the three-match series against Zimbabwe, played on Saturday, July 25, at the Harare Sports Club. Earlier this year, Ishan returned to the Indian setup under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy and has been delivering consistent performances. He was named Player of the Match in the second T20I against Zimbabwe after smashing 81 off 44 balls, including nine fours and two sixes.

Speaking during a discussion on his YouTube channel (Wasim Jaffer Official), Wasim Jaffer said: “Credit should also be given to Suryakumar Yadav, and the selectors deserve praise as well for acknowledging his domestic performances. Ishan has repaid the faith they showed in him. I think he has been a fantastic addition right from the World Cup, and long may it continue.”
“He’s in excellent form, and all of us would want him to continue like this for a long time. Ishan Kishan is going through a purple patch, whether it’s the World Cup, the IPL, or even after that. He’s batting with tremendous confidence. His leg-side game has always been strong, but I feel that the kind of confidence required at the international level is now clearly visible in Ishan Kishan. The management has also shown faith in him by giving him the No. 3 batting position, which is an excellent spot in the batting order, and he’s making the most of it,” he further added.

After India’s 90-run win over Zimbabwe in the second T20I, India sealed an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series with one match to spare.

“It was much needed. As expected, we were always going to beat Zimbabwe, and beat them comprehensively, which India did. So, somewhere, this would have boosted the team’s confidence. But let’s not talk too much about it because this is Zimbabwe. We’ll get a better idea when we play against the bigger teams. We shouldn’t read too much into either the bowling or the batting based on this series. It’s nice that we’ve won the series, and that was expected, but the bigger challenges are still ahead,” he shared.
“As for Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy, there was never any doubt about it. We’ve already seen and assessed his leadership in the IPL. However, there are much bigger challenges coming up, whether it’s New Zealand, Australia, or the other tough opponents we’ll face. I think that’s when we’ll truly see how this team performs,” Wasim Jaffer concluded.
