The BCCI Ethics Officer DK Jain on Saturday served a notice to Cricket Advisory Committee which comprised of Kapil Dev, Shantha Rangaswamy and Anshuman Gaekwad. They were asked to respond by October 10 to the Conflict of Interest allegations charged against them. MPCA life member Sanjiv Gupta had filed the complaint against them.

“Yes, they have been asked to respond to the complaint with affidavits,” a BCCI official said to PTI.

As per the BCCI constitution rule, no one can hold more than one post at the same time. In the complaint, Gupta has said that the CAC members are having multiple cricketing roles. He said that Kapil Dev is a commentator, owner of a floodlight company, member of Indian Cricketers Association, alongside his CAC role. Gaekwad too is conflicted as he owns an academy and he is a member of BCCI Affiliation Committee. On the other hand, Rangaswamy is associated with CAC and ICA both.

The Cricket Advisory Committee who chose Ravi Shastri in August as the head coach of India had also picked the women’s head coach W V Raman in December but it was an ad-hoc committee at that time. Following the incident, Shantha Rangaswamy has resigned from the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) and as the director of the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) as well.

She emailed her resignation to the Committee of Administrators (CoA) and the Board’s CEO, Rahul Johri, stating that she no longer wants to be part of the CAC. According to the sources of Sportstar, Rangaswamy has also emailed Gopal Krishna Pillai – the interim chairman of the ICA – stating that she wants to step down as the director of the association. Although she has resigned from ICA directorship, she has already applied for general membership in the association.

“In her emails, she (Rangaswamy) has made it clear that she wants to step down from both the positions. It is absolutely her personal call,” said a top BCCI official.

“We had sent all the necessary documents to the CoA and only after that were we brought on board. Now, how come there is a notice again?” the CAC member asked. “It was anyway a one-off honorary assignment. Our job is over, and this is surprising.”
