As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) didn’t accept Cricket Australia’s (CA) offer to play the day/night Test at Adelaide Oval (Adelaide) during the ongoing tour, it has affected the ground ticket selling. Now, CA is looking forward to organising the day/night Test at Adelaide in near future.

Despite their multiple attempts, CA failed to convince the BCCI for the day/night Test in the ongoing tour. The Indian cricket team hasn’t made their debut yet in the day/night Test match and they denied making it count during the ongoing tour where Australia is hosting the four-match Test series.

Since the day/night Test debut in November 2015, Adelaide Oval has organised a yearly day/night Test till the last year. Australia was hoping to organise it against India in this season, but BCCI didn’t accept it.

While the four-match Test series against India has just started at Adelaide on Thursday, the day one attendance number was 23,802 – the lowest since the stadium was rebuilt in 2013.

CA CEO Kevin Roberts recently told that they have lost a good number of fans here due to not organising a day/night Test match this time. Now, they are looking forward to making a return the day/night Test cricket at Adelaide as soon as possible.

Roberts told SEN Radio, “No doubt we have lost that particular group of fans (who like D/N Tests) for this Test. We are looking forward to the day-night Test coming back to Adelaide. You look at the way fans have embraced it. I am an advocate for day-night Test cricket but it doesn’t matter what I think, it’s what the fans think.”

However, the CA has scheduled to organise one day/night Test match during Sri Lanka tour of Australia for the two-match Test series in January-February 2019 but that will be played at The Gabba (Brisbane). After December 2016, The Gabba is getting ready to organise the day/night Test cricket.

According to the present ICC rules, the visiting sides will decide whether to play the day/night Test (also known as pink balls Test) or not. Roberts now hopes that the Indian cricket team will accept to play the day/night Test cricket in their next Australian tour.

Roberts added, “Let’s hope so. We will take it one step at a time. We embrace that they have a different view of this Test match but we hope in time, with the sentiment from fans, we can have a day-night Test.”

The second Test of the ongoing series between Australia and India will be played at the new Perth Stadium (Perth) from December 14. The Perth Stadium made international cricket debut through the ODI format in this January and now, it is going to make the debut in Test cricket through upcoming Australia vs India Test match. However, its ticket sales for the second Test are still not very encouraging at the moment. Roberts hopes the ongoing Adelaide Test could run in a very competitive way and he believes that it will make a positive impact for the Perth Test.

Roberts commented on that, “I would suggest it’s something to do with that it’s not a regular fixture on the calendar, it’s a new venue, it’s close to Christmas. Hopefully, it goes for five days here [in Adelaide] and the cricket community are inspired to attend in bigger numbers than what we suspect.”
