Cricket Australia Selects Virat Kohli As A Captain Of Their ODI Team of 2018

Cricket Australia (CA) has announced their ODI team of 2018 where the Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been selected as the skipper. While the Indian players have dominated in this team, there is no Australian player.

On Sunday (December 30), CA’s digital media – cricket.com.au – published their ODI team of the year. Apart from the skipper and no. 1 ranked ODI batsman Virat Kohli, opener Rohit Sharma (no.2 ranked ODI batsman), left-arm chinaman Kuldeep Yadav (no.3 ranked ODI bowler) and right-arm pacer Jasprit Bumrah (no.1 ranked ODI bowler) are the other Indian cricketers in this list.

Among the other Asians in this list, Sri Lankan Thisara Perera (no.29 ranked ODI all-rounder) is representing as the pace-bowling all-rounder while Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan (no.2 ranked ODI bowler & no.1 ranked ODI all-rounder) and Bangladesh left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman (no.5 ranked ODI bowler) are representing as the bowlers.

On the other hand, three English players have been included in this list and these are the opener Jonny Bairstow (no.13 ranked ODI batsman), the no.3 batsman Joe Root (no.4 ranked ODI batsman) and the wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler (no.19 ranked ODI batsman).

The 22-year-old Windies batsman Shimron Hetmyer (no.40 ranked ODI batsman), who impressed with the bat in hands in this year, is the other man in this ODI squad.

There is no Australian cricketer in this squad. It was one of the worst years in ODI cricket for the five-time World Cup-winning team. Playing 13 ODIs in this calendar year, Australia won only two ODIs and they didn’t win any ODI series in this year.
