On Monday, Cricket Scotland took to its official Twitter account to thank Rebecca Downie, a teenaged girl, who happens to be the designer of the jersey Scotland is donning in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The Scottish jersey has shades of purple and black combined with an abstract design and the nation’s name printed across the front.

Cricket Scotland posted a picture of the little schoolgirl wearing her own design and tweeted, “Scotland’s kit designer. 12-year-old Rebecca Downie from Haddington. She was following our first game on TV, proudly sporting the shirt she designed herself. Thank you again, Rebecca! #FollowScotland | #PurpleLids.”

Meanwhile, the Kyle Coetzer-led team started their campaign on a winning note, defeating the favorites of their group – Bangladesh – by six runs to script an upset on the opening day of the multi-team event.

Scotland team has been going through a purple patch as managed to make a comeback in the game after being reduced 53/6 at one stage before Chris Greaves bailed them out of trouble with his 28-ball 45 laced with four boundaries and a couple of sixes. Greaves did not stop there and went on to scalp the crucial wickets of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim to derail Bangladesh’s attempt to chase 141.

Talking about the game, Chris Greaves said, “We were in a tough situation obviously and it doesn’t always go that way. It was just to rebuild the innings at that stage and see where we could go from there. I was happy to be that person. With the score on the board, you’ve got something to bowl at. I think once we got that total on the board with our bowling lineup, we’ll back it. It was a great great game.”

He further added, “It was my day I think today. It will be many other days that any one of us in that squad will be a part of. I’m just glad I could contribute in the way I did. Incredible. There are so many words. Just really enjoying it and taking one day at a time. Hopefully, many more days like this to come.”
