Cricket West Indies Announces 18-Member Squad For Test Series Preparatory Camp

Cricket West Indies has announced the 18-member squad for the preparatory camp ahead of the two-match Test series against India next month. The Indian team will be traveling to the Caribbean for two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is. While West Indies is currently focused on the ODI World Cup qualifiers, the selectors have now shifted their attention to the upcoming Test series.

The West Indies Cricket Board tweeted, “CWI Men’s Selection Panel today named the 18-member squad for the preparation camp ahead of the start of the two-match Cycle Pure Agarbathi Test Series against India in the Caribbean.”

Kraigg Brathwaite has been appointed as the captain of the team, and the preparation camp will play a crucial role for the hosts as it marks the beginning of the next World Test Championship cycle for them. West Indies cricket has been going through a tough phase recently, and they will be looking to bounce back in the upcoming series.

The selection panel will closely assess the players during the camp before finalizing the squad. On the other hand, India has made some significant changes in their Test squad, signaling the start of a transitional phase. Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav have been left out of the squad, while Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Mukesh Kumar have received call-ups.

Ajinkya Rahane, who made a strong comeback in the Test format with an impressive knock of 89 runs in the World Test Championship final, has been named as the deputy to captain Rohit Sharma in the Test team. The series between West Indies and India promises to be an exciting contest as both teams aim to make their mark in the upcoming matches.
