Earlier in the game, half-centuries from KL Rahul and Virat Kohli helped the hosts post 240 runs in the allotted 50 overs. Virat Kohli has had a remarkable outing in the 2023 World Cup. HeΒ is the leading run-scorer in the competition with 765 runs from 11 matches. The India star has also scored 3 centuries and 6 half-centuries. He now holds the record for scoring the most runs in a single edition of the World Cup.

Despite the fifties for Virat and Rahul India only managed to reach the score of 240 runs in their quota of 50 overs owing to the brilliant all-round performance from the Australian bowlers and fielders well assisted by the slowness of the pitch. Australia captain, Pat Cummins made the right call of bowling first after winning the toss. For teh Aussies, Pat Cummins (2/34) and Mitchell Starc (3/55) bowled excellent spells.

During the chase, despite the quick runs India managed to restrict the Aussies to a score of 60/3 in the first 10 overs but the herculean partnership of 192 runs between Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne (58 off 100 balls) helped them to win the World Cup 2023. The slowness of the pitch didn’t help the Indian spinners at all in the second innings due to the ample amount of dew. It was still a brilliant campaign for the Indian team who were unbeaten in the tournament till the summit clash.
