When Croft pushed the umpire

During the second Test of West Indies’ tour of New Zealand in 1980 at Christchurch, former West Indian speedster, Colin Croft, had deliberately pushed umpire Fred Goodall after the New Zealand-based umpire denied his appeal against Richard Hadlee wrongly.

Earlier, in the first Test at Dunedin, Michael Holding had kicked the stumps in a bid to show his frustration against poor umpiring decisions. The matters had worsened to the extent that there were reports of the West Indian team leaving the tour midway.

It is said that the umpiring in that particular series was of a poor standard. Remember, those were the times of when the concept of neutral umpires was yet to arrive.
