CSK Announces Matheesha Pathirana As Adam Milne’s Replacement

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have announced the signing up of young Sri Lanka fast bowler, Matheesha Pathirana to replace injured New Zealand pacer Adam Milne for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Pathirana was part of the CSK side as one of their net bowlers during the IPL 2021 season.

The 19-year-old from Kandy is a slinger in the Lasith Malinga mold and impressed one and all with his performances at the U19 World Cup this year.

In a press release regarding the same, BCCI wrote: “Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed Matheesha Pathirana as a replacement for New Zealand pacer Adam Milne for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Milne suffered a hamstring injury in CSK’s first match against Kolkata Knight Riders and has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament.”

Adam Milne was ruled out due to a knee injury and it was the latest blow for CSK after Deepak Chahar who has already been out of IPL 2022 after sustaining a back injury while recovering from a quadriceps injury. He played only one match for CSK this season and went wicketless while conceding 19 runs in 2.3 overs.

Milne’s replacement Matheesha Pathirana is a young 19-year-old medium-pace bowler from Sri Lanka who was part of Sri Lanka’s U19 World Cup squads in 2020 and 2022. He will join CSK at the price of INR20 Lakh. He has only played 1 List A and 2 T20 matches picking two wickets in the shortest form of the game.

CSKscheduled to face Mumbai Indians (MI) in their 7th match of the season on April 21 (Thursday) and the Men in Yellow will have to return to winning ways soon. Matheesha Pathirana is expected to join the team soon now but will have to complete mandatory quarantine to enter the bio-bubble as well.
