There is a question regarding the availability of the veteran South African batsman, Faf du Plessis Chennai Super Kings’s (CSK) opening game of the second phase of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 against Mumbai Indians (MI). He is still burning a groin injury that he suffered recently in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021.
However, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan is not too worried about the former South African captain’s chances of featuring in the playing XI of the game against MI on September 19 as they already have a good backup option in Robin Uthappa, who can open with Ruturaj Gaikwad if Du Plessis is not able to take the field in time.
Faf Du Plessis had missed the last three matches of CPL 2021 after injuring his groin while playing for Saint Lucia Kings.

As per the quotes in Inside sport, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said, “He is in isolation as arrived only last night. Once he is out, we will assess his injury and then take a call accordingly. But there is no need to worry right now.”
But CSK will be a bit worried if du Plessis failed to attain complete fitness in the whole season as he was their batting mainstay in the first half of IPL 2021. He is the third-highest scorer so far this season with 320 runs from 7 matches and he has scored runs at an average of 64 with four half-centuries.

Uthappa, who came to CSK this year after being released by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), did not play a single match in the first half. 31 remaining matches of IPL 2021 will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September with CSK facing MI in the opening clash at the Dubai International Stadium on Saturday.
