On Wednesday, the IPL 2021 match scheduled to be taking place between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR)  has been postponed. The match was scheduled to be played on May 5 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Since three members of the CSK contingent tested positive for Covid-19, an official from the franchise has informed that the team is planning to go under quarantine and hence the scheduled game against RR will not go as planned.

As per the reports of the Indian Express, a CSK official confirmed that who had come in contact with the coach will have to go under six-day quarantine. He said, “The coach is asymptomatic. However, as per the BCCI’s Covid protocols, everybody who has come in contact with him will have to undergo a six-day quarantine. We can’t play our next game (against Rajasthan Royals).”

He further added, “The BCCI knows about the testing protocols and how many tests need to become negative before an all-clear is given. We have communicated it to the BCCI. They will have to reschedule the game between CSK and Rajasthan Royals.”

Along with the match against RR, CSK might not able to play the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) due to the six-day quarantine period. SRH and CSK were scheduled to lock horns with each other on May 7 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

However, a BCCI official informed that the match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and SUnrisers Hyderabad (SRH) scheduled to be taking place on Tuesday in Delhi will go as planned. However, there is palpable anxiety as MI had played against CSK as recently as Saturday and Balaji did come in contact with MI players during the game.

If the CSK vs RR match gets postponed, it will be the 2nd match of IPL 2021 to be affected by Covid-19. On Monday, the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was also postponed as two KKR players were tested positive for Covid-19. Also, the Delhi Capitals players have been asked to undergo quarantine as they played against KKR on Thursday.
