BCCI had approached Cricket West Indies (CWI) to commence the CPL season of 2021 a bit early. Indian cricket governing body had to do so due to the overlapping schedules of IPL and CPL. CWI has requested by the BCCI to make room for IPL’s 14th edition as they are looking to complete the second leg in UAE.
After a long meeting between BCCI and CWI, the request has been accepted by the Widnies cricket committee. However, CPL 2021 schedule was already out as it was expected to commence on 28 August with the final to be played on September 19. BCCI wanted to conduct IPL second leg in September but was not able to decide a date due to CPL and India’s tour to England. But they finally came up with a date of September 19 same as the date of the conclusion of CPL.

Now, the new agreement was agreed upon by the BCCI and CPL authorities. Informing the same, as per the quotes in Cricbuzz, the president of CWI, Ricky Skerritt said, “CWI is doing our best to help facilitate a smooth transition from CPL to IPL, without a conflicting overlap.”
Now both the committee have reached a conclusion as Jay shah, BCCI secretary spoke to CPL COO Pete Russell. The BCCI secretary has also spoken to his counterparts in the CWI, following which the Caribbean cricket authorities have agreed to tweak the CPL schedule.
After the rescheduling of CPL, the league will be commencing on August 25 and will end on September 15th. It will help IPL to start from its original date and the schedule of two T20 leagues wouldn’t be overlapping. It is helpful for the players involved in both CPL and IPL. As per reports, CPL players who are part of IPL can join the teams after going through a quick quarantine period.

CPL authorities are looking at logistics as the Windies players have to move to bubble from national to the franchise after the Pakistan series. The BCCI, meanwhile, is trying to plug a few more loose ends before it announced the schedule of teh remaining IPL 2021 matches, which will be played in the UAE.
