South African pace spearhead Dale Steyn has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The veteran pacer has informed this on Twitter on Tuesday, bringing to an end a 17-year illustrious career, which included 93 Tests, 125 ODIs and 47 T20Is for the South African team as well.
Steyn has played his last Test in February 2019 and he has announced his retirement from the format in August that year as well. His last ODI appearance came in March 2019 whereas he has last played an ODI match in February last year.

Dale Steyn has played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well where he has featured for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) last year. He claimed only three matches whereas he has played the Pakistan Super League in 2021 also. However, it was his last professional commitment as well. Steyn has 196 wickets in 125 ODIs and 64 wickets in 47 T20Is as well.

Apart from RCB, he has featured for Deccan Chargers, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Brisbane Heat, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Lions, Jamaica Tallawahs, Cape Town Knight Riders, Cape Town Blitz, Glasgow Giants, Melbourne Stars, Islamabad United, Kandy Tuskers and Quetta Gladiators as well.

“And it’s been a long December and there’s reason to believe maybe this year will be better than last,” Steyn said in his statement. “I can’t remember all the times I tried to tell myself to hold on to these moments as they pass.”
“It’s been 20 years since training, matches, travel, wins, losses, strapped feet, jetlag, joy, and brotherhood. There are too many memories to tell. Too many faces to thank. So I left it to the experts to sum up, my favourite band, the Counting Crows. Today I officially retire from the game I love the most. Bitter sweet but grateful. Thank you everyone, from family to teammates, journalists to fans, it’s been an incredible journey together,” Dale Steyn further added.
