Former South African pacer Dale Steyn praised Gerald Coetzee’s stellar all-round performance in the 2nd T20I against India, which secured a thrilling 3-wicket win for South Africa on November 10 in Gqeberha. Coetzee’s impactful bowling and aggressive batting turned the tide for the Proteas, helping them level the 4-match series 1-1.
Dale Steyn believes that Coetzee’s impressive performance, both with the ball and the bat, will catch the attention of IPL franchises ahead of the upcoming 2025 mega auction. Coetzee finished the match with figures of 1/25 in his four overs and scored a quick-fire 19 off just 9 balls, staying unbeaten until the end.
“Coetzee bowling gas, hitting HUGE sixes. If anything from this series, he’s getting some IPL attention,” Dale Steyn shared on social media platform X. With only a couple of weeks left for the IPL 2025 mega auction, Coetzee’s timing couldn’t have been better.

In a match where South Africa’s chase of 125 looked difficult at 86/7, Gerald Coetzee partnered with Tristan Stubbs in an unbroken 42-run stand off just 20 balls, clinching victory with an over to spare. Even in the 1st T20I, Coetzee showed his talent, taking 3/37 despite India scoring over 200. His quick 11-ball 23 with the bat hinted at his explosive capabilities.
