Dale Steyn, the iconic South African pacer, has sparked excitement by predicting that IPL’s first-ever 300-run innings might be scored on April 17, 2025. His bold forecast followed Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) electrifying season opener against Rajasthan Royals (RR), where they posted a staggering 286/6 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

This mammoth total, led by Ishan Kishan’s explosive century, Travis Head’s rapid half-century, and valuable cameos from Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Reddy, and Heinrich Klaasen, marked the second-highest total in IPL history—just shy of SRH’s own record from IPL 2024.

Steyn, who once played for SRH and also served as their bowling coach, hinted that the much-anticipated milestone could be reached when SRH faces Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium. “Small prediction. April 17 we’ll see the first 300 in IPL. Who knows, I might even be there to see it happen,” Steyn wrote on X. Considering SRH’s fearsome batting line-up, his prediction might not be far from reality.

The combination of Kishan’s ferocious debut hundred at No. 3, Head’s relentless stroke play, and the reliable Abhishek Sharma saw SRH rack up a massive 94 runs in the powerplay—one of the highest in IPL history. With a squad built around aggressive batting, SRH’s potential to breach the 300-run mark seems more likely at Wankhede, a venue notorious for its flat pitch and short boundaries.

Interestingly, when SRH met MI at Wankhede last season, it was a run-fest. SRH amassed 277 while MI replied with 246, making the idea of a 300-run innings seem plausible. However, Mumbai’s campaign hasn’t started on a high note this year. They faced a four-wicket defeat to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk, where Noor Ahmed and Khaleel Ahmed’s precise bowling stifled them before Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad finished the job for CSK.
As April 17 approaches, fans and analysts will be eagerly watching to see if Steyn’s prediction turns into a historic IPL moment.
