Former South Africa fast-bowling great Dale Steyn has raised concerns over Kartik Tyagi’s development, suggesting that the young pacer is still searching for consistency in his approach. Tyagi, who featured as an Impact Player in IPL 2026, came under scrutiny after another expensive outing, prompting Steyn to point out recurring technical changes in his bowling action.
Taking to social media, Dale Steyn observed, “Tyagi seems to have changed his action, again.” He added, “A young man with pace and good skill, but I feel he has yet to believe in his own body’s ability.” The former Proteas speedster also hinted that Tyagi’s tendency to replicate other bowlers’ actions might be holding him back from finding his natural rhythm.

Tyagi first made headlines during the 2020 U19 World Cup and was picked up by Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2020. He had a promising debut season, picking up nine wickets in 10 matches, although his economy rate remained on the higher side. Despite flashes of brilliance—most notably his famous final over against Punjab Kings in IPL 2021—consistency has eluded him.

His IPL journey since then has been unsettled. Stints with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans offered limited opportunities, restricting his growth at the highest level. After going unsold in IPL 2025, Tyagi earned a lifeline when Kolkata Knight Riders signed him for IPL 2026.

However, in his recent appearance, Tyagi conceded 43 runs in four overs, although he did manage to dismiss Suryakumar Yadav. While the raw pace and skill are evident, Steyn’s remarks underline a larger issue—until Tyagi backs his own strengths and settles on a consistent action, unlocking his full potential at the IPL level may remain a challenge.
