Cricket is an unpredictable game and the result can’t be guessed until the match is over. Recently, in the match between Colombo Stars and Dambulla Giants in the ongoing edition of the Lanka Premier League at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo witnessed a nail-biting win as well.
It happened during the 11th match of the ongoing edition of the LPL where Colombo Stars were playing against Dambulla Giants. Batting first, Dambulla Giants managed to put up a decent total of 138/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Niroshan Dickwella top-scored with 30 off 16 balls with six boundaries. Meanwhile, Ravi Rampaul and Jeffrey Vandersay picked up 3 wickets each whereas Seekkuge Prasanna took 2 wickets as well.

In reply, Colombo Stars got off to a good start and Dinesh Chandimal and captain Dhananjaya de Silva steadied the ship. Chandimal scored 65 off 40 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes as well. Dhananjaya de Silva, meanwhile, scored 33 off 30 balls including 3 fours and a six too. After Dhananjaya de Silvabatsmen’s dismissal, Colombo Stars depended on Chandimal and lower-order batsmen to take the team home.

However, the equation came down to the final over when Colombo Stars required 13 runs off 6 balls. Chandimal got off to a massive start to the over by smashing a boundary off the very first ball off Karunaratne as well.

After that, Chandimal took a single to keep the scoreboard ticking and gave the strike to Dushmantha Chameera. When 8 runs were required off the 4 balls, Chameera was sent back to the dugout on the very first ball. Meanwhile, Chandimal who returned to the striker’s end did not take a single off the 4th ball. Karunaratne bowled a full-length delivery and Chandimal picked up 2 runs as well. With six required off the final ball, Chandimal failed to hit a six as he only managed to score a boundary off the final ball.
With this, Dambulla Giants won the game by one run. Dhananjaya de Silva, the losing captain, at the post-match presentation shared: “It was a hard-fought game and unfortunately one team had to lose. We need runs from the top-order, if that happens, we’ll be in the game big time.”
