Former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori has applauded Gujarat Titans (GT) opener, Wriddhiman Saha, for his stunning performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2022). He also added that Wriddhiman Saha has made a significant impact in this season and his comments came after GT’s seven-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Speaking on ESPNCricinfo, Vettori said, “We need to give a lot of credit to Wriddhiman Saha. He has been very consistent and has given his side enough runs in the powerplay to not put too much pressure on Shubman Gill or Hardik Pandya. He’s been a real catalyst for them in going from just winning games to winning them comfortably.”
However, Wriddhiman Saha scored an unbeaten half-century against CSK on Sunday – 67 runs from 57 balls to help his side chase down the target of 134 with ease as well. In the same video, Piyush Chawla has also stated that, while it is GT’s maiden season of IPL, their players have done quite well in the league.

He said, “GT are a new team but the players are still old and have enough experience of playing in the IPL. They have gelled really well and they have looked quite balanced. They could just look to make one or two changes now. I would like to see Lockie Ferguson back for the big games because he is a matchwinner.”
However, Gujarat Titans (GT) have sealed a spot in the top two of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) after their stunning 7-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday. While speaking after the CSK vs GT clash, Daniel Vettori has said that people didn’t give the Gujarat side enough credit for winning their initial games as well. He also said that they have been winning matches with ease at this stage, which are signs of a strong team too. He also added that GT have a formidable bowling attack and their batting lineup has also improved.
Daniel Vettori said: “We probably didn’t give GT enough credit after their first few games as they were tight and could have gone either way. But someone like Rahul Tewatia, David Miller or Rashid Khan got them over the line. But now they are putting in performances which start to make you believe that this is a very good team. I think it’s on the back of a strong bowling lineup and a batting lineup that has a huge amount of confidence.”

Meanwhile, GT have showcased stunning form in their maiden season in the IPL. With ten wins from thirteen games, they are currently the table-toppers in IPL 2022 as well. Moreover, they were the first team to qualify for the playoffs this year. “You don’t see that score very often in an IPL game with only 5 wickets down and that too on a surface that looked pretty good. GT just cruised to it. I don’t know how you explain a performance like that other than the changes,” Daniel Vettori concluded.
