Vettori is also the coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is very well aware of the skillset of Chahal. However, he has credited the Indian skipper Virat Kohli for the success of Chahal so far in his career. Virat is also the captain of RCB and had led Chahal before he made his international debut. Also, a brilliant display of bowling in IPL has earned him the place in the national side.

Chahal is currently in South Africa and has wreaked havoc in the dug-out of the home side in the ongoing ODI series. He has already scalped 11 wickets in the three matches with a career-best five-wicket haul and is looking good for more. Daniel reckoned that bowling on the flat tracks of the Chinnaswamy Stadium during the IPL has helped the young leggie a lot. He also credited his success to Kohli as he used to encourage him to toss the ball up fearlessly even during the closely contested matches.

Proteas finding it difficult to read Chahal

As quoted in PTI, Vettori said, “Yuzi is a brave bowler and it’s not easy when you are playing a lot of IPL matches at a small ground like the Chinnaswamy, which is conducive to batting. He is still prepared to attack the batsmen and this is a mindset that Virat has instilled in him while leading him to the RCB and now India. Surely, it’s paying dividends as we can see.”

Daniel, who has always been known as one of the best left-arm spinners in the world, also denied the fact that current generation of batsmen is finding it pretty difficult to read the wrist-spinners and suggested to hail the skills of the bowlers instead.

Vettori concluded by stating the fact that the wrist spinners have definitely increased their skill set, he said, “Some batsmen do and some don’t. For me, I sit back and enjoy whenever a leg-spinner or for that matter, any spin bowler does well and appreciate their skill level.Chahal is a very talented, skillful and accurate bowler. That package is tough to deal with as a batsman in any condition. I am so happy for Yuzi that he is not only performing in India but outside the sub-continent as well.”
