Former Pakistan player Danish Kaneria believes that former India chief selector Chetan Sharma deserved to be sacked, considering how he made some poor calls during his tenure. While speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaneria shared how the selection committee was responsible for Virat Kohli’s exit as captain. He also stated that the committee eventually had to pay for its actions.
He explained: “The way the selection committee changed the captains and the overall team was not ideal. We saw it with the whole Virat Kohli captaincy fiasco. See, if someone does something wrong, they will have to pay for it at some point in time.”I was never a fan of Chetan Sharma, and he is a very different type of character. I don’t think there’s a place for people like him in Indian cricket.”
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sacked the entire four-member senior men’s selection committee on Friday, November 18. After that, the board invited new applications for the vacant posts as well. Meanwhile, Dinesh Kaneria also added that BCCI president Roger Binny made the correct move by showing the door to the Chetan Sharma-headed selection committee.

“The BCCI has taken a very big decision by sacking the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee. I believe Roger Binny has made the right call. This shows that the board wants to move forward. They have pinpointed the errors that led to their underwhelming performances at the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup,” he further added.
He also wants the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to appoint a new captain for the T20I team in future. While he suggested that regular skipper Rohit Sharma could still continue to be the captain for Test and ODI matches, he believes that someone like Hardik Pandya should be the captain of the T20 format.
Kaneria claimed: “India must have different captains for different formats. It is understandable if they go with the same captain for Tests and ODIs. However, there has to be a different captain for T20Is. Hardik Pandya might be handed the captaincy for the shortest format. They should not waste any more time and should identify these roles now.”

However, Dinesh Kaneria again stated that apart from the split captaincy, the team should also consider bringing in a new coach for their T20I team. He again shared that Rahul Dravid should only be reserved for red-ball cricket and ODIs as well.
“While we talk about split captaincy, the same also applies to the head coach as well. There have to be different coaches. I believe Rahul Dravid is better suited to the longer formats. India need a T20 specialist at the helm for the shortest format,” Dinesh Kaneria concluded.
