Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria has criticized Sri Lanka’s head coach Mickey Arthur after his team failed to win the first T20I against India on Sunday in Colombo. He targeted Arthur for his public display of aggression during the ODI series.

Sri Lanka is currently playing India in a white-ball series, where they have lost the ODI series before being 1-0 down in the T20I series despite playing in familiar home conditions.

“Mickey Arthur told his players to stop using social media, but he should rather focus on making and executing the right plans for the opposition,” Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

“This is the age of social media and in a biosecure bubble, players will use it for sure. What are you doing as a coach? What have you delivered?”

Arthur is a regular face in the coaching circuit across international teams. He has coached several other teams as well in the past. However, Kaneria feels all those teams witnessed downfall and he wasn’t able to fulfil the duties.

“You need to groom this young team and not get angry at them after a loss. Stop giving them vague suggestions. Whichever team he has coached, its performance has declined,” Danish Kaneria stated.

Former leg-spinner also backed India as favourites to win the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE.

“If this Indian team keeps on performing and executing their skills like this, and if there is a combination of this new-look team and the main team in England, then the opposition will be under serious pressure. This team is certainly a huge contender in the T20 World Cup,” Kaneria concluded.

The second T20I between Sri Lanka and India got postponed to Wednesday after Indian all-rounder Krunal Pandya was tested positive for Covid-19.
