Danushka Gunathilaka Receives A Ban Of Six Matches

On Friday, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced that Danushka Gunathilaka will be suspended for International matches for breaching the ‘Player Code of Conduct and Contractual Obligation’. Out of the total six matches, three matches have been handed over for the latest violation of the ‘Player Code of Conduct and Contractual Obligation’ he has entered to with the SLC.

Apart from the same, the other three matches are given from a suspended sentence of one year, which Gunathilaka was already serving since October 18, 2017, for breaching the ‘Player Contract,’ in an earlier occasion. SLC’s press release regarding the same read: “Gunathilaka will also not be paid the match fee for the concluded second Test match which Sri Lanka played against South Africa at the SSC during the ongoing tour, along with any bonus and or other payments in connection thereto.”

The sanctions imposed by SLC will be forced with immediate effect.

Apart from the suspension, Gunathilka will also not be paid for the second Test against South Africa, during the course of which he was in breach of the contract. And no bonus or payments with regards to the game will be given to him.

A friend of Gunathilaka was arrested under allegations of rape of a Norwegian woman in a hotel room. Danushka was not charged but was restrained for questioning by the police. Nevertheless, he breached the SLC Code that made him ineligible to stay outside his room after midnight or to accommodate guests in his room during matches.

After the interrogation. the officer told AFP, “He has said he was asleep and was not aware of what had taken place between his friend and the Norwegian woman. Police are not pressing charges against Gunathilaka at the moment, but the case record will be presented to a magistrate on Thursday.”
