On Tuesday, former Australia cricket coach Darren Lehmann decided to quit social media after his Twitter account was hacked and used to post “vile and horrendous” content, including anti-Iran messages. The 49-year-old is currently performing the duties of coach of Brisbane Heat in the domestic Twenty20 Big Bash League (BBL) and he was focused on their upset win over Sydney Thunder on Monday when the incident occurred.
However, the hacker used Lehmann’s account to promote anti-Iran messages and propaganda to Darren Lehmann’s 341,000 followers on Twitter. Global tensions are running high after US forces killed top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in a drone strike in Baghdad, with Tehran threatening retaliation.

Lehmann wasn’t able to believe the mishappenings, with Twitter, have since resolved the problem and removed the content.
The BBL coach explained, “As you have probably noticed, last night while we were playing our BBL game, someone hacked my accounts and used it to spread some malicious and hurtful statements. To see such vile and horrendous opinions used in my name has caused great upset to me and my family. I’ve decided to have a break from social media for the foreseeable future.
He further added, “It has taken until this morning to have it resolved through Twitter despite me addressing it as soon as I become aware of it after the game.”

We are aware our coach Darren Lehmann’s Twitter account has been hacked and are working closely with Twitter to rectify the situation. We apologise for any offence caused this evening.”

Here is how netizens reacted to the account hack:
Brisbane Heat is going to make Darren Lehmann tweet at the IRGC Quds Force explaining how he was hacked and that the AFP is investigating"Chief Keef" as its primary suspect — and, at that moment, this simulation will come to its abrupt but peaceful close.

I presume @darren_lehmann has been hacked all night on twitter, except momentarily when he decided to stop coaching the Heat and follow me on Twitter.
