Daryl Mitchell delivered a stunning moment on Thursday (May 18) by taking a spectacular catch to dismiss Virat Kohli during the ongoing IPL 2024 game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
In the form Virat Kohli has been displaying, CSK needed something extraordinary to remove the former RCB captain, and Daryl Mitchell rose to the occasion. Kohli had made a positive start and was well set at the crease, batting on 47 off 28 balls, before Mitchell’s brilliance in the field brought an end to his innings.

On the fourth ball of the tenth over, Mitchell Santner bowled a delivery targeting the leg stump that spun away sharply. Kohli misjudged the line and length of the ball and played against the turn. Additionally, he failed to keep his shot grounded, resulting in a mistimed shot heading towards long-on.
Mitchell, positioned at long-on, took a couple of steps back to catch the ball. However, his momentum carried him dangerously close to the boundary rope. Demonstrating remarkable presence of mind and agility, Mitchell threw the ball into the air before stepping over the boundary rope, then re-entered the field of play to complete the catch successfully.

At the time of Kohli’s dismissal, RCB were at 125 for 2 in the 14th over. Following Kohli’s exit, RCB suffered another blow when their captain, Faf du Plessis, was run out. The former South Africa skipper scored a solid 54 runs off 39 balls, hitting three sixes and as many fours before being dismissed.
RCB is in a must-win situation to secure a spot in the playoffs. However, just winning the game won’t suffice—they need to win by a significant margin to improve their net run rate and surpass CSK. This added pressure makes every run and every wicket in this match crucial for RCB’s playoff ambitions.
