Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were seen having a decent outing in the UAE leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 second leg match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) but still lost the match by 2 wickets. However, they might have more problems after all-rounder Andre Russell was seen going off the field and didn’t come back to bowl the 19th over of the match.

KKR mentor David Hussey, in an after-match virtual press conference, informed about Russell’s fitness. However, Russell, despite being one of the best all-rounders in the world today, has struggled with his fitness in the past two years in the IPL. He has often been seen struggling with a knee problem in the IPL 2020 and didn’t play many matches, leading to his team, the KKR to fail in their quest to qualify for the playoffs despite replacing Dinesh Karthik as the captain and appointing England’s Eoin Morgan instead.

Against the MS Dhoni-led side, Russell made a quick 20 runs and picked one wicket in his 3 overs.

He was supposed to bowl the 19th over as CSK needed 26 runs in 12 balls to win the match. But Russell had hobbled off the field citing injury concerns and the over was bowled by Prasidh Krishna who gave away 22 runs as Ravindra Jadeja hit him for 2 sixes and 2 fours. Sunil Narine picked two wickets in the last over while defending 4 runs and almost pulled off the impossible, but CSK escaped with a 2-wicket win.

Speaking to the press in the post-match conference, KKR mentor David Hussey informed about Andre Russell’s injury.
